THE LDS HUMAN BEING
First LDS Test-Tube Baby: The Allen's baby was actually the 11th test-tube baby born in the U.S., not the 14th.
Great military history scholar Curtis Allen points out two mistakes:
Longest Military March (1847 World Record): The accompanying photo is not of the Mormon Battalion Bugle Corps as indicated; it is of the bugle corps in Johnston's Army at Camp Floyd.
Largest Pre-Civil War Military Base: Albert Sidney Johnston was a Brigadier General when he established Camp Floyd. In the book, I had knocked him down to Colonel!.
FAME
United States Treasurer: There's some confusion in the write-up and photo caption distinguishing between U.S. Treasurer and Secretary of the Treasury, two distinct and different jobs and titles. Ivy Baker Priest and Bay Buchanan served as U.S. Treasurers. David M. Kennedy served as Secretary of the Treasury.
THE CHURCH
The First Non-English Stake: Some confusion about this record is clarified here. The first stakes in Mexico were created before the Hague Netherlands Stake, but these were in the Mexican colonies among U.S. citizens (English speaking) living there at the time. The Hague Netherlands Stake was also the first on the European mainland, not Europe in general because stakes existed prior to this time in the United Kingdom (islands off the coast!).
KNOWLEDGE
Trees - Desert Shade: In the first printing of Mormon World Records, there is some missing text at the top of pg. 326. The complete sentence reads: On 6th East just south of 3rd South in Salt Lake City, a Utah red cedar tree once stood alongside the road, remembered now by only a stump and a plaque erected in its honor."
Largest Russian Olive Tree: The photo caption accompanying this record lists it as the largest in the world. This is not correct. It is the largest in the U.S.
The Prophet's Ring Finger: In this paragraph I have Joseph Smith listed at 6 foot 2 inches, a heroic stature in today's world, but a couple of inches too high. Put him back at 6 feet even, the more likely size according to most researchers. Thanks to Kevin Steadman for the help!
SPORTS
First NFL Head Coach: Mike Holmgren is not LDS. My goof! Looks like Andy Reid of the Philadelphia Eagles was the first. First Professional Quarterback: Virgil Carter (former BYU great) was the first LDS pro quarterback in the NFL, not Danny White as indicated.
Best BMX Cyclist: Girls, 13. Sorry Julee, my fumbled fingers fumbled again. There is no new thing called MBX biking. That was me typing too fast again. It should have read "second rated BMX racer among United States girls."
Shot Put Men: BYU's Soren Tllhem is not LDS ... sorry ‘bout that, Soren, but you're in good company anyway!
Shot Put High School Boys: Leif Arrhenius' record throw of 76 feet 1.75 inches was not with a 25-pound shotput but a 25-pound weight. His throw was a national high school record for juniors.
